That’s not inspired by Splatoon; that’s a straight-up copy! Just look at the gameplay footage: the characters, settings, mechanics and even the music are all ripped straight from the popular Wii U game. Little information is known on who’s behind this blatant copyright infringement, but it doesn’t come as a surprise. China is infamous for its countless bootlegs and knock-offs of popular media franchises, and with how lax their copyright laws are, most of them sadly slip past the radar. For example, Blizzard has had their ups and downs in pursuing copyright infringement over there, so Nintendo may have a tough time with this case. We’ll give the uninspired hacks credit, though: Nintendo recently dismissed the idea of a 3DS Splatoon since the ink mechanic would be too much for a handheld, so that these guys got it working on a mobile game is no small feat.Update: It’s come to our attention that Nintendo has shut down the gameplay video on copyright grounds. The same thieves involved have also created a Smash Bros. mobile ripoff known as Pocket All-Stars. Here’s some gameplay footage, but who knows how long it’ll be up?
